The Important Things
BEING HAPPY
This is fundamental to you, your child and to Little Leo’s Nursery. Careful thought and guidance is given when you and your child begin your induction to Little Leo’s Nursery. Every child is an individual and after completing the paperwork and meeting your child’s key person, settling in visits are arranged.

We know that some children settle more quickly than others, emotional stability is very important in all stages of development which is why the length of the settling in period is determined by your child’s needs.

“They have an amazing time in the in the garden as they confidently use an excellent range of outdoor play equipment.”

“Staff ensure that the daily routine is planned exceptionally well according to their individual needs, and at their own pace. As a result, babies are content and feel secure.”

BEING STIMULATED
Babies and young children have active minds and bodies and the most important time in their learning is the first five years. Babies through to pre-school children need appropriate activities to encourage, enable and challenge their minds and bodies.

“Babies and toddlers play with a quality range of toys and experiences that promote the development of their senses.”

BEING INFORMED
Information about your child and how they are when you are not with them is very important. Planned activities provide you with part of the picture. Your child’s key person will provide you with details of your child’s individual progress.

We will also complete a variety of formal and informal reports that we will feed back to you. This constant dialogue along with opportunities to attend developmental meetings, focusing on care and education are all part of the package we offer you.

Being informed enables you and your child to make the very best of our service.

“The nursery works tremendously well with parents. Parents have access to an abundance of information, which is displayed around the nursery.”

BEING SOCIABLE
One of the main reasons parents choose to send their child to a Nursery is to allow them to mix and socialise, sharing toys and equipment, saying please and thank you and respecting others is fostered through play. All children are encouraged to develop their social skills in a caring environment.

“Children are taught to value and respect each other's differences and similarities.”

BEING INDEPENDENT
We provide appropriate toys and equipment to allow children to make choices, making children feel valued and enhancing their self-esteem fostering their ability to be independent.

“Children's learning of independent skills are successfully supported, through the careful deployment of quality resources and activities around the nursery, to allow for self-selection.”

HEALTHY FOOD
At Little Leo’s Nursery we believe that children should eat a wholesome, balanced diet. We have created a mouth-watering 4 week menu cycle. These menus are appraised regularly and changed according to the season of the year. At meal times, children are encouraged to serve themselves, learn good table manners and interact with others.

Mealtimes are opportunities to develop social skills and to expand language and communication ability.

The cultural background, dietary requirements and food allergies of every child are respected and we work closely with all Parent/Carers to ensure that their child’s needs are catered for.

“Children are exceptionally well supported to develop a healthy lifestyle, through the provision of healthy and nutritious snacks and freshly cooked meals. Excellent considerations are given to children's dietary needs to ensure these are met sensitively.”

FIRM FOUNDATIONS
At Little Leo’s Nursery we follow the guidance of the revised Early Years Foundations Stage (EYFS) framework in line with our registration and inspection. The EYFS is a stage of children’s development from birth to the end of their first (reception) year at school. The framework is a guidance document for early years practitioners to be able to work with children and their families to support their learning and development. The framework, which was revised in September 2012 focuses on children’s learning and with greater emphasis on working in partnership with parents to support children’s learning at home.

The revised EYFS is broken down into 7 areas of Learning and Development. Of these, children usually develop the 3 Prime Areas first. These are:

• Communication and Language
• Physical Development
• Personal, Social and Emotional Development

As children grow these Prime Areas will help them to develop skills in the 4 Specific Areas:

• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Understanding of the world
• Expressive arts and design

These 7 areas are used to plan your child's learning. At Little Leos we use a fun, play approach to support learning and development in the early years, guided by staff who are qualified to support children's learning and development through effective teaching. Each child's learning and development is recorded and available for you to access and support.

Our staff will be happy to provide you with more information on the EYFS. You can also visit the government website  http://www.ofsted.gov.uk

“Children make excellent progress towards the early learning goals. Through working with parents and close observation, staff are able to provide challenging activities to support each child's individual learning and development needs exceptionally well.”

“High-quality support is provided quickly and effectively, so that all children make outstanding progress in all aspects of their learning and development.”
